Improving your local SEO is particularly important for businesses with a small service area. Honing your local SEO can drive your Google ranking up and improve conversion rates, so let’s run through the basics and get you on track to be a local legend.

Create a Google My Business profile

This is the very first thing you should do when building your local SEO. Make sure you verify your profile and fill out all your information in full, adding products and services can be time-consuming but it’s worth it. You can get started here.

Consistent NAP across the board (Name, Address, Phone number)

When listing your business information, make sure you use consistant information. This is a known Google ranking factor, so it’s worth double checking all your citations are correct.

List your business in local directories

Register with all local directories as well as the national ones. Here’s a few to get you started:

  • Yelp
  • Facebook Business Profile
  • LinkedIn Company Listing
  • Bing
  • Yahoo! Local
  • Yellow Pages

Ask for Google reviews from your customers

Reviews definitely have a positive affect on SEO so don’t forget to ask your happy customers for a review or testimonial. Always forget to ask? Try popping a link to your google business page on your email footer to gain reviews easily.

If you’re starting out you could use your location name in your URL

If you’re starting a new venture then consider putting your location in your URL, for example nicholeshairdressinglondon.co.uk.

Consider creating a landing page for each area/city

Landing pages are great for a range of reasons (more on this in a later blog), but they can be great for targeting different cities. Just be careful not to duplicate all your content from another page, it still needs to be original and relevant.

Use locations in Title Tags

Put you homepage Title Tags to good use and use it to bump your local SEO! On your homepage consider making your first ‘Heading 1’ tag have your location name in, for example, “Nichole’s Hairdressing, London – Mobile Hairdresser in the greater London area’
